4.2: Manage classroom activities.

4.3: Manage challenging behavior.

This photo is an example of one of the ways I had managed a group work activity with Grade six students within my practicum requirements for the fourth year subject EES440.

Students were separated into groups of 3, and were required to create a concept map about everything that they knew of the topic of space, and any aspects of space that they wanted to know more about. This activity was used as a pretest so I could gain an understanding of how much knowledge the students already had about space. Students then presented their concept maps to the class, which allowed me to alter any future lessons if appropriate in order to suit the learners' needs and interests.

Within this Grade 6 classroom, there were a few students with behavioral issues, which would result in the class being constantly disrupted. I purposely made sure that these particular students were grouped with other students of the class that they wouldn't normal sit next to, and also prompt them to contribute to the group task.

4.5: Use ICT safely, responsibly and ethically.

'E-Smart: Hector's World' lesson plan

Throughout my practicum placements in my fourth year of university study within the Foundation classroom, one short unit sequence that was implemented was about Internet Safety. This lesson plan was part of the first of three lessons, focusing on Internet Safety and what it means to use the Internet in an ethical manner.

Students watched a 4-minute cartoon video about a group of sea animals exploring the Internet. Throughout the video, I would pause and ask the students specific questions related to what was happening in the video.

These questions prompted critical thinking of what is appropriate and what is not appropriate to publish on the Internet. Afterwards, a whole-class discussion was held to elaborate on the cartoon video and what students had learned from this session.
